Saudi Arabia: 9 hotel chains join the Red Sea project – General news
NAPLES – The Red Sea Development Company, which develops mega-tourism projects on the west coast of Saudi Arabia, has signed nine agreements with international hotel brands for the first phase of its luxury project. The nine hotel companies include Edition Hotels and St Regis Hotels & Resorts, which are part of Marriott International; Fairmont Hotel & Resorts, Raffles Hotels & Resorts and SLS Hotels & Residences, which are part of the international Accor group. Other hotels are also the Grand Hyatt, Intercontinental Hotels & Resorts and Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts, a group from Dubai.
“Such a partnership with globally recognized and respected brands is a testament to the growing confidence in our company, our flagship destination and in Saudi Arabia as a tourist destination,” said John Pagano, Managing Director of The Red Sea Development Company ( TRSDC), quoted in Wednesday by the newspaper Le National.
The projects are part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy to diversify its economy and reduce its dependence on oil. The agreement was signed during the Future Investment Initiative (FII) in Riyadh, during which it was announced that the brands will manage nine of the 16 establishments under construction, with the creation of 1,700 hotel rooms on the first 3,000 planned.
“We work with world-renowned hotel operators who share our vision of providing exciting growth opportunities for the kingdom’s tourism and hospitality market, while protecting the natural environment, for the benefit of our local community and by providing extraordinary and immersive customer experiences, ”said Pagano.
The first part of the transformation of the area on the Red Sea also provides for the construction of a high-level tourist port, an 18-hole golf course, leisure facilities and an international airport which is expected to accommodate a million passengers per year by 2030.
